The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) will impose temporary restrictions on the imports of seeded fruits, eggplants, potatoes, and dried fruits from Armenia—and of Armenian origin—to Russia, as well as on their transit to the other Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)-member countries, starting from Wednesday.
Rosselkhoznadzor issued a statement in this regard and noted that these measures are due to the lack of mechanisms that confirm the entry of products subject to quarantine control in exporting countries.
The aforesaid restrictions will be in effect until the development of an appropriate algorithm that will ensure monitoring and security of supplies.
Rosselkhoznadzor added that, in their opinion, the situation indicates problems in the monitoring system of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and the insufficient effectiveness of regulation in the agricultural production sector of the country.
