The Armenian Apostolic Church will not allow anyone to interfere in its internal affairs, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II stated during a meeting with several journalists Tuesday.

Touching upon the fact that the ruling party of Armenia has included the fight against the Armenian Apostolic Church in its election program, and what steps the Armenian Apostolic Church is ready to take in this regard, the Catholicos noted that the results of the parliamentary elections to be held on Sunday are not yet known.

“But the [Armenian Apostolic] Church is always ready to defend its rights and not allow any structure or authority to interfere in its internal life in any way and subordinate it to its own will. Therefore, our position is firm and clear for the sake of the people and for the sake of the Fatherland,” Karekin II added.

He recalled that for centuries the Armenian Apostolic Church has carried out a very important mission: building the spiritual values of the Armenian people, preserving the Armenian national identity, and guaranteeing Armenians’ vitality.

The Catholicos noted that the Armenian Apostolic Church will unwaveringly continue this historical mission under any circumstances, relying on the Heavenly Father and its own people.
