Ford Motor has recalled nearly 420,000 vehicles in the US over defective seatbelt pretensioners, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

The recall affects 2018-2022 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models.

In these vehicles, the driver's or front passenger's seatbelt pretensioners may automatically lock the belt, preventing it from properly tightening or retracting, which could pose a risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles and replace the defective pretensioners.

Ford shares fell 0.6% in premarket trading on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the year, the capitalization of the American automaker has increased by 23%, reaching $66.27 billion.
