The US is not treating Armenia as it would an equal partner. Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated this in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

At the end of May, Armenia and the US signed a package of documents, including the Charter on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Zakharova noted that none of these signed documents is an international treaty and, therefore, does not create any specific obligations for the parties.

“Let's ask a question: is this how an equal partner is treated? Of course not. When it comes to equality... the matter is not limited to just declarations, statements, promises, and vows. In that case, relations are actually formalized by international treaties,” Zakharova told RIA Novosti, responding to the question about Russia’s assessment of the aforesaid package of documents.

Also, the Russian MFA spokesperson pointed to the fact that the US and Armenia have previously signed documents on strategic partnership as well, but the previous promises by the Americans have never been fulfilled.
