If Armenia believes that it would be better for it in the European Union (EU) than in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), it can make that choice—but not at the expense of Russia, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk.

“We [i.e. Russia] are for what the Armenians themselves consider best for themselves… If they think that it would be more convenient and better for them in the European Union, they can certainly go there,” Overchuk told RIA Novosti news agency on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, answering the question of whether Armenia would go for a final break in relations with the EAEU.

Overchuk said that Armenia can make that choice if it wishes.

“But not at our [i.e. Russia’s] expense,” he added.
