The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) does not want to take actions against Armenia, but its aspiration towards the European Union (EU), which has turned into a military-political union, is causing concern. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated this in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“First of all, no one wants any specific actions from the EAEU towards Armenia. Armenia is a member state of the EAEU. Armenia conscientiously fulfills all its obligations undertaken within the framework of the EAEU. I can say this with responsibility, because we constantly monitor the entire normative and legal framework of Armenia to identify the presence of deviations from the obligations undertaken within the framework of the EAEU. And we do not detect such deviations,” Overchuk noted.

Also, he drew attention to the fact that Armenia is declaring a desire to move to European standards.

"But I want to say: not all European standards are bad. There have been and are many good things there. What worries us? The European Union has today actually transformed from an economic integration union, which we all knew well, and where many good and appealing things were done. However, it has transformed into a military-political union, which today treats our country [i.e. Russia] with hostility. And here we have questions. Where is Armenia going? What consequences will it have? Why should we [i.e. Russia] support this movement?" the Russian deputy PM asked.
