The conflict regarding Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member Armenia's European Union (EU) membership aspirations represents a working situation, and a working approach should be taken to it. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated this in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

According to Overchuk, if we talk about the law of the EAEU, then today it does not provide for the exclusion of any state or the termination of the participation of an EAEU member in the activities of the union.

"This is an issue that should be studied from a purely legal point of view, because today we have encountered a certain legal conflict, and it should be discussed. This should also be treated very calmly, we will work calmly. By the way, I think that Armenians will also participate in this work, because they, as participants in the Eurasian Economic Union, understand that there are some gaps in the EAEU law that need to be filled. This is a natural working situation,” Overchuk noted.

“But, again, we [i.e. Russia] are very concerned about this European aspiration movement, which, in our opinion, potentially harms very much both Armenia, the Eurasian Union, and our countries’ businesses, which are currently in a state of uncertainty. And what to do? That, in essence, is the whole question. This is a working situation, and a working approach should be taken to it,” added the Russian deputy premier.
