The United States supports Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, including the country's right to determine its foreign policy and relations, a US Department of State spokesperson told RFE/RL.

Responding to RFE/RL's questions about reports of foreign interference in upcoming Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Armenia and warnings from US lawmakers, the State Department spokesperson said that only the citizens of Armenia should determine the country's political future.

The US aware of media reports of foreign interference in Armenia's political processes, but the people of Armenia have the right to choose their own leadership and build their own future, the US State Department spokesperson said.

State Department spokesperson added that the importance of the deepening relations between Armenia and the US and the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, the framework agreement for which was signed Thursday by the Armenian foreign minister and a few days ago by the US Secretary of State.

As the US Secretary of State’s recent visit to Yerevan shows, TRIPP is of key and long-term importance in bringing peace and prosperity to Armenia and the South Caucasus, the State Department spokesperson told RFE/RL.
