Armenia's Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan voted in Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

According to Grigoryan, he voted for the sovereignty, democracy, stability, as well as the development of the Republic of Armenia.

Also, he commented on Russia's harsh statements against Armenia and Moscow’s demand for Yerevan to hold a referendum on Armenia either staying in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) or joining the European Union (EU).

"In general, there is no such matter on our agenda at the moment. It’s about a referendum, through which we [i.e. Armenia] will discuss the matter of EU membership, because, as you know, we have always stated that as long as [Armenia’s] relations with the two organizations are compatible—that is, with the EAEU and the European Union, we will continue this agenda. Today, too, we see that this agenda is compatible, and we will continue our work in this direction," Grigoryan said.

He commented also on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements about the incompatibility of simultaneous membership in both organizations.

“The organizations are incompatible, and we [i.e. Armenia] also have said that membership in both organizations is incompatible. But the level of relations that we have with the EAEU as a member state, and the relations that we have today with the EU, we are convinced that they are compatible,” he said.

The secretary of the Security Council of Armenia answered also the question of what topics will be discussed with the Russian side within the framework of the upcoming visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the Russia.

“Naturally, we will discuss with our Russian partners the relations between Armenia and the Russian Federation, as well as multilateral relations. In particular, it’s about economic relations within the framework of the EAEU. Of course, it is possible that emotions were more tense during the pre-election period. I am convinced that emotions will calm down, and from tomorrow we will discuss our agendas in more calm conditions. I think we will find solutions to the problems.

You also see that we [i.e. Armenia] are also developing relations with the EU. The Prime Minister had a telephone conversation with [European Commission President Ursula] von der Leyen. The European Union is ready to open its market to Armenian products. And we are confident that we will find solutions to the problems that arise before us in an unnatural way; that is, as a result of decisions," said the secretary of the Security Council of Armenia.
