Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia has accused the European Union (EU) of silence on the arrests of opposition members in Armenia, reports the Telegram channel Sputnik-Georgia.

“Several dozen opposition politicians were arrested in Armenia before the [parliamentary] elections [Sunday], and the European Union has not responded to this fact in any way,” Shalva Papuashvili said.

“If someone has committed a crime, they should be arrested; that is the rule of law. If it is good for Washington, Berlin and Yerevan, then it should be equally good for Tbilisi. Behind each criminal case stands the prosecutor's office's accusation and the practice of Strasbourg, which confirms the correctness of Georgian justice,” added the Georgian parliament speaker.
