Prosperous Armenia Party chairman Gagik Tsarukyan was questioned Tuesday at the Investigative Committee. He denied the new accusation against him, calling it groundless, his lawyer, Emin Khachatryan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am Wednesday.
According to Khachatryan, the criminal proceedings were initiated in 2019, but Gagik Tsarukyan was not aware of these criminal proceedings until yesterday.
A criminal prosecution was initiated against Tsarukyan Tuesday without the consent of the Central Election Commission (CEC), and a ban on leaving Armenia was applied as his preventive measure.
The lawyer said that the prosecutor's office was obliged to first apply to the CEC, since Gagik Tsarukyan is an MP candidate, therefore he has immunity.
