The people of Armenia remember Russia's historical role and the importance of relations between the two countries, despite the change of political figures in that country. Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia, Ella Pamfilova, expressed such a view reflecting on the results of the work of Russian observers in the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 7.

As per Pamfilova, representatives of Russian election commissions visited a total of 180 polling stations and 11 territorial election commissions in Armenia, where they monitored the voting process and the work of the local election commissions.

Also, the head of the Russian CEC asked colleagues to prepare an analytical material based on their observations "in order to understand the ongoing events and have a picture of the future." According to her, this is necessary in order to respond in a timely manner to such processes that may negatively affect the relations between the two countries.

“I am sure that different political figures come and go, and although history textbooks are being reedited under [Armenian PM Nikol] Pashinyan, by and large, the memory of the Armenian people preserves what role Russia has in the history of Armenia, and what significance our relations have not only for Armenia’s past, but also for [its] future,” Pamfilova noted.

In her assessment, studying the ongoing processes is important in order to “not turn a blind eye” to emerging problems and prevent such phenomena that could hinder normal partnership relations between Russia and Armenia.
