The government of Armenia adopted a decision at its Cabinet meeting today, which will impose a temporary ban—for a period of 6 months—on the export of wheat from the country.

The decision is aimed at ensuring Armenia's food security and stabilizing the country’s economy.

According to the explanation of this decision, domestic production of this product does not meet the demand of the Armenian market, which is mainly provided on the account of imports.

The ban imposed by this decision, however, will not apply to goods imported into Armenia and exported from the country under the "Re-export" customs procedure.

Also, another decision has imposed a temporary ban—for a period of 6 months—on the export of ceramic waste from used catalysts of automobile mufflers.

This decision is due to the need to increase the level of environmental protection in Armenia; in particular, to reduce the uncontrolled emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere during the operation of vehicles without neutralization system, as well as the need to prevent the illegal circulation of catalysts installed on vehicles.
