The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy of Iran has warned ships not to attempt to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, whose closure was announced earlier following an incident involving a cargo ship, Iranian satellite television Al-Alam reports.

“We continue to monitor the Strait of Hormuz and will act decisively against any ship that attempts to pass through the strait,” the IRGC command said in a statement. Earlier, Iranian military forces opened fire to prevent the aforesaid cargo ship from passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The incident occurred off the coast of the city of Sirik in southern Iran, where explosions were reported. Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) on Thursday confirmed the decision to close the Strait of Hormuz to all ships until further notice.
