The Israeli army will remain in Lebanon and continue the fight against Hezbollah, even if the US and Iran sign a deal to resolve the conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US President Donald Trump, Israeli sources say, Ynet news portal reports.

Accordingly, Netanyahu told Trump that Israel will not withdraw its troops from Lebanon, and that it does not feel bound by the Lebanon clause in the agreement with Iran. Netanyahu said that the Israel Defense Forces will remain in their current positions in Lebanon and will continue operations to confront the threat posed by Hezbollah.

Earlier, President Donald Trump of the US and Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi of Iran announced that their countries had completed the preparation of a memorandum of understanding, the signing of which is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland. According to the Iranian deputy foreign minister, the document implies an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
