The Syrian authorities have rejected the US proposal to use force against Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah movement, Syrian presidential adviser Ahmed Zidan said, The National reports.

The US has suggested that Syria intervene in the situation in Lebanon. The Syrian state is not interested in military intervention. Some international actors may resort to a military approach, but such actions have proven ineffective in the region, Zidan noted.

According to him, Damascus supports the Lebanese government's efforts to strengthen state institutions, but is against external military intervention.

Earlier, a possible visit by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to Washington was discussed, where Syria's role in the situation in Lebanon could be discussed. However, the American side later stated that such a visit is not included in the current plans.

Earlier, there were media reports that the US was considering the possibility of engaging Syria in resolving the situation in Lebanon, but these reports were officially denied.
