The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia on Wednesday granted the petition submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office to consent to initiating criminal prosecution against Davit Ghazinyan, who is on the opposition Strong Armenia Alliance’s electoral list for the parliamentary elections on June 7.

The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has petitioned to the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia to submit to the CEC a petition to deprive Davit Ghazinyan, a registered MP candidate, of immunity.

As a result of the measures taken by the employees of the Anti-Corruption Committee, factual data were obtained that persons appointed as responsible persons in the Arabkir administrative district office of the Strong Armenia party in Yerevan, as well as Davit Ghazinyan, a registered candidate for MP of the same party, with prior agreement with the party's supporters and a group of people collaborating with them, promised voters, as well as gave them electoral bribes, the Anti-Corruption Committee had noted in a statement.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, a number of arrests have been made, searches have been conducted, and some other procedural actions have been taken by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.
