The agreement with the US has effectively changed the status of the Strait of Hormuz in Tehran's favor, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said, according to Fars News Agency.

As per Ghalibaf, the US "made the potential of the Strait of Hormuz a reality" for Iran.

The Iranian parliament speaker said that Iran has sovereign rights in the Strait of Hormuz and will charge for the corresponding services.

"Iran has sovereign rights in the Strait of Hormuz, and, naturally, we will charge for the services," he said.

He added that distrust of the US remains at its highest, even in the event of a final agreement and its approval by a UN Security Council resolution.

"My distrust of America is at its highest. Even if the agreement is final and approved by a Security Council resolution, it is still completely unreliable,” Ghalibaf said.

Also, he stated that the line between diplomatic and military methods in Iran’s approaches remains highly conditional.

“The distance between diplomatic struggle and military struggle is not great for us [i.e. Iran], and our hand is on the trigger,” the Iranian parliament speaker added.
