Iran's Supreme Leader, Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, announced his agreement to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the presidents of Iran and the US, subject to certain conditions and taking into account the positions of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Pars Today reports.
Khamenei noted that the decision was made based on the commitments undertaken by the Iranian president within the framework of protecting the interests of the state and the "resistance front," although he himself initially had a different position.
The respective message of the Iranian Supreme Leader emphasizes that the process of reaching an agreement was accompanied by the active work of Iranian negotiators, and also notes that the American side used various levers of pressure to accelerate the achievement of agreements.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that Iran will wait for the strict implementation of the stipulated conditions and will not accept any attempts by the US to revise the agreement or make additional demands.
“I was of a different opinion in principle. But taking into account the obligations that the esteemed [Iranian] president, as the chairman of the Supreme National Security Council, has undertaken on behalf of himself and the other members of the council in protecting the rights of the Iranian people and the resistance front, and taking responsibility for it, I have given my permission,” the Iranian Supreme Leader noted.
“From now on, we, that is, you, the proud [Iranian] people, and I, will wait for the fulfillment of the agreed conditions. However, it is self-evident that the upcoming face-to-face negotiations will not mean accepting the enemy’s point of view,” Mojtaba Khamenei, added.
