Jaguar has officially announced that the long-awaited Type 01 electric grand tourer will be presented in New York in October. It is this model that should open a new chapter in the history of the UK carmaker, which completely abandons traditional engines and turns into a manufacturer of luxury electric cars, reports Autocar.
The premiere date was announced by the company's chief commercial officer Leonard Hoornik during a meeting with investors. According to him, the launch will take place in a "very, very special way," but details have not yet been disclosed.
The choice of New York as the debut venue shows that the JLR concern continues to consider the United States as one of the key markets for the new model, despite the weakening of environmental requirements in the country and the ambiguous reaction to Jaguar's large-scale rebranding.
The new Type 01 will be the brand's first production car after a nearly year-and-a-half hiatus from new models, which began after the end of the F-Pace crossover in late 2025. Sales of the electric car will begin in the first half of 2027.
Previously, the model was known by the internal index X900 and was called Type 00, after the concept presented in Miami. However, now the company has confirmed that the production version will be named Type 01. As per Jaguar representatives, the name has several meanings at once. The Type prefix refers to the brand's legendary models: C-Type, D-Type, E-Type and F-Type.
The number 0 symbolizes a fully electric powertrain with zero emissions, and the number 1 emphasizes that this is the first Jaguar of the new era. According to preliminary data, the Type 01 will be a four-door sports grand tourer with a capacity of more than 1,000 horsepower.
The car is built on a new JEA platform, developed specifically for future electric cars of the brand. JLR CEO PB Balaji stated that the company does not intend to abandon the path of full electrification of Jaguar, despite the recent decision to use hybrid power plants on other platforms of the concern.
According to him, it is the electric drive that enables achieving the performance and dynamics characteristics that the brand considers mandatory for its future cars. Jaguar is also preparing to enter the more expensive segment of the market. It is expected that prices for the Type 01 will start at about 120 thousand pounds sterling and may exceed 150 thousand pounds for individually customized versions.
Thus, the brand hopes to occupy an intermediate position between premium brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz and ultra-luxury car manufacturers such as Bentley and Aston Martin.
According to industry sources, after the Type 01, at least two more models may appear on the same architecture: a large executive sedan and an SUV, which will probably be called Type 02 and Type 03.
