US President Donald Trump will hold a closed meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House on Wednesday, according to the American leader's work schedule for the day.

Accordingly, the talks will begin at 3:30 p.m. Washington time in the Oval Office of the White House. Although the latter’s administration has previously usually allowed reporters to attend the start of meetings between Trump and the NATO Secretary General, this time the talks will be held completely behind closed doors.

The NATO Secretary General has traveled to the US ahead of the alliance's summit scheduled in Ankara in July in an attempt to ease transatlantic tensions, Euronews reports.

In addition to talks with the US President, Rutte will meet also with senior US administration officials in Washington, as well as participate remotely in the summit of the E5 group of countries (Poland, Germany, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom).
