A criminal proceeding has been initiated into the brawl that took place at the Yerevan Council of Elders session Tuesday, the Investigative Committee of Armenia reported.

The criminal proceeding was launched under Article 195, Section 2, Paragraph 5—i.e. physical assault by a group of people—of the Criminal Code of Armenia .

During the Yerevan Council of Elders session Tuesday, it all started when Deputy Mayor Armen Pambukhchyan, who was chairing the session, addressed the members of the opposition Mother Armenia faction and said that their leader, Andranik Tevanyan, was a state traitor and was arrested for that.

But the members of the Mother Armenia faction did not like this statement, they started to get up from their seats and shout, and Pambukhchyan urged them to leave the sessions’ hall. During that time, a clash broke out between members of the Mother Armenia and the pro-government Civil Contract factions of the Yerevan Council of Elders.
