The US military carried out an airstrike in northwestern Syria last week, killing a senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS), the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Wednesday reported on X.

According to CENTCOM, the targeted strike was carried out on June 19, killing Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi.

The statement noted that the operation was part of the US' ongoing efforts to disrupt and destroy the activities of terrorists who seek to attack Americans abroad or in the US.

CENTCOM commander. Admiral Brad Cooper, stated that US forces continue to operate in conjunction with regional partners.

According to him, the US intends to simultaneously protect its territory, military personnel, as well as its allies in the region in the future.
