The behavior of the current Armenian authorities, in particular, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, cannot be called a bona fide membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova in a comment.

Zakharova noted that Pashinyan left the main question unanswered at Thursday’s Cabinet session of the Armenian government, as well as during his subsequent press briefing.

"In particular, how can one adopt the law on the launch of the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union in 2025, regularly insist that Armenia's future lies in Europe, sign joint declarations with the EU in May 2026 with a list of specific steps aimed at the [Armenian] republic’s rapprochement to that union, and at the same time declare the intention to remain a full member of the EAEU?

In essence, it turns out that Yerevan's activities within the framework of the [Eurasian Economic] Union are just a temporary measure to prepare the ground for [Armenia’s] joining the European bloc, whose standards and rules are radically different from the EAEU, and which, moreover, pursues a hostile policy towards Russia. Such behavior cannot be called bona fide membership in the EAEU," the Russian MFA spokesperson said.
