In the coming days, it will become clear whether the constitutional high court will remain within the framework of the law, in its role, or not. MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in the National Assembly (parliament) on Friday stated this during the opposition forces’ joint protest in front of the Constitutional Court (CC) of Armenia.

"It is not that the court already has a standing, it has acted within the framework of the law so far, but in any case there is a petition, the opportunity has been given, let's see what the result will be.

After the Constitutional Court's decision, we will present our position: do we take the [parliamentary] mandates, do we not take [them]? If we take [them], with what agenda? If we go to parliament, at least what roadmap do we imagine? And if we go, with what agenda, with what steps, with what regime, what will we do? If we do not go, what will we do?

We have had various discussions so far, and these discussions within our alliance, party, and with partners are ongoing. We will come to a final conclusion after the decision of the Constitutional Court,” Saghatelyan said.

He stated that the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections were distorted and the true expression of the will of the Armenian people is not being expressed.

“The elections were completely held in an atmosphere of fraud during the pre-election period, on the day of the elections themselves, and they continue in the post-election period as well, including the shameful decision of the CEC [i.e. the Central Electoral Commission], which stole 60,000 votes from the PAP [i.e. the Prosperous Armenia Party] in broad daylight with one signature,” the opposition lawmaker said.

And when asked when we will see the Armenian opposition on the streets, he replied: “Whenever the opposition decides, it organizes. It is not possible to achieve success with parliamentary tools alone. If we go to parliament, in those five years you should have noticed that we did not go, we stayed in parliament, at least in five years three major movements have been generated, and an attempt has been made to remove these authorities [from power]. Ask that question to those who have done nothing in these five years, don't ask that question to me. Different scenarios are being discussed and there is also a deep awareness that there is a need to take to the streets in the most organized way so that success is inevitable; that is, taking to the streets, for the sake of taking to the streets, is not right.”

As reported earlier, a protest is underway in front of the CC, where members of opposition political forces and their supporters have gathered. In particular, Strong Armenia and "Armenia" Alliances are holding a joint rally. The Prosperous Armenia Party and the "HayaQve" initiative members are also there.

The Constitutional Court of Armenia on Friday started the examination of the petitions of seven political forces contesting the June 7 parliamentary election results.
