YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Campaign Headquarters released its preliminary evaluation on the May 6 National Assembly elections.

“The parliamentary elections are marred with numerous election violations. The volume of election bribes and false philanthropy reached alarming dimensions. 

The authorities’ use of administrative resources created unequal conditions for the political forces taking part in the election race.

There were a great number of election violations when voters, who were brought en masse from the regions, were temporarily registered at the addresses of [capital] Yerevan homes and apartments.   

There are valid suspicions that the manipulations, which were carried out with the Police passport departments’ lists, enabled the constituents to vote for a second time.      

We also express a concern with respect to voting with different-color pens.

And even though the actual course of the electoral process at the precincts can be considered a progress as compared with all previous elections, the widespread election violations committed outside the precincts have cast a shadow upon the legality and legitimacy of the elections,” Heritage Campaign Headquarters’ statement reads in particular.       

To note, Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission has issued the preliminary results of the May 6 parliamentary elections. Five parties and one political bloc will be represented in the 131-seat National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia: Republican Party of Armenia – 44.05% (663,066 votes), Prosperous Armenia Party – 30.20% (454,684 votes), Armenian National Congress – 7.10% (106,910 votes), Heritage Party – 5.79% (87,095 votes), ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party – 5.73% (86, 296 votes), and Orinats Yerkir Party – 5.49% (82,690 votes).
