Iran and Qatar have agreed to unfreeze $6 billion of the total $12 billion of Iranian assets in Qatar, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced.
“According to the agreements reached, $6 billion of the total $12 billion of Iranian assets in Qatar will be unfrozen and returned to the country. Work is also underway to return the rest of these assets,” the Iranian president said, his press service informs.
On June 20, The Wall Street Journal had reported that the US was working with Qatar on a mechanism that would allow Iran to use some of its frozen assets to acquire humanitarian goods. Accordingly, Tehran may initially gain access to $6 billion held in Qatar.
