The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has confirmed the legality of the recent actions of Russian border guards. This became evident from the explanation received from the NSS press service in response to a request from Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In early June, information was disseminated on social media that Russian border guards in Armenia allegedly committed illegal actions against a group of citizens, prohibiting them from entering the village of Nrnadzor in Syunik Province.

According to Facebook posts, on the eve of the parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia on June 7, the Russian border guards and the NSS of Armenia “illegally” did not allow a group of representatives of European countries and citizens to enter the aforesaid village. The reason for the ban was the lack of local registration or the appropriate pass.

The NSS of the Republic of Armenia (RA) commented on this incident as follows: “Regarding the information requested in paragraph 1 of your inquiry dated 10.06.2026 addressed to the Director of the RA National Security Service, we inform that in accordance with the Resolution of the RA Government No. 735-N of May 12, 2011, the entry of persons and vehicles into the boundary layer [of Armenia] is carried out with individual or group passes, in the presence of an identity document. The same resolution also defines the procedure for obtaining permits and passes for entry into the boundary layer.”
