Leaders of NATO member states will sign a memorandum on defense industry ecosystem at the summit in Ankara, Turkey on July 7 and 8, and reaffirm their commitment to increase defense spending to 5 percent of their GDP by 2035. These agreements will be reflected in a communiqué to be adopted following the summit, Hurriyet daily reports.

According to this pro-Turkish government newspaper, NATO member states will also reaffirm their commitment to the organization’s article 5 on collective defense, which states that an attack on one or more members of the alliance is an attack on all of them.

Also, the document will list the threats to NATO, express support for Ukraine, and provide financial assistance to it.

Three events will be held in Ankara on the first day of the summit, Hurriyet added. In particular, a working dinner of foreign ministers will be held in the format of the NATO-Ukraine Council. Also, NATO countries’ defense ministers will meet with representatives of Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. And Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will give an official reception in honor of the leaders of NATO countries participating in the summit.

In addition to the participants of this high-level meeting itself, leaders of the Asia-Pacific region countries, heads of European Union institutions, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are invited to it.
