Opposition Strong Armenia Alliance will take the parliamentary mandates, Narek Karapetyan, who headed the Strong Armenia’s electoral list in the National Assembly elections on June 7, announced Sunday.

“We are going to invite people to the streets when we see an opportunity for change, and thus we have come to a common denominator that the right thing to do is for us to take the [parliamentary] mandates and representation in the National Assembly, which will also support the street struggle tomorrow,” Karapetyan said. In his remark, he said that Nikol Pashinyan is the weakest prime minister in the history of newly independent Armenia.

“Dear compatriots, these elections have clearly shown for the first time that the [incumbent] prime minister of Armenia no longer has the trust of the majority of the people. Today, the country is led by a prime minister who does not have a clear and strong mandate from the people. Nikol Pashinyan used practically all the methods of power resource that are characteristic of non-democratic regimes, but even under those conditions he could not receive the support of the majority.

He is the weakest prime minister in the history of newly independent Armenia, and this is the most vivid proof of the unity and will of the Armenian people to change,” Karapetyan noted, thanking everyone who voted for and supported them. According to him, one thing is clear: the people of Armenia voted against Nikol Pashinyan, rejected the fight against the Armenian Apostolic Church and the policy of weakening Armenian national identity, the plan of changing the constitution of Armenia and making concessions at the expense of national interests.

“Despite administrative pressure, electoral violations, Pashinyan was unable to receive the majority of the calculated votes; he was unable to achieve his main political goal: ensuring a constitutional majority [in parliament]. There are serious grounds to assume that the real support of the CC [i.e. the ruling Civil Contract party] was lower than the officially published figures. If the elections were truly free, independent and competitive, today's prime minister of the RA [i.e. the Republic of Armenia] would be [Strong Armenia Alliance leader] Samvel Karapetyan," Narek Karapetyan said.

He noted that they promised the people of Armenia victory and they will bring that victory. "We have blocked [Azerbaijani president Ilham] Aliyev's constitutional amendments [in Armenia]. For the first time in history, Pashinyan does not have a constitutional majority [in parliament], for the first time he lost the trust of the majority of the people.

We will win the municipal elections and continue to expand the people's trust, and in the final phase, the people of Armenia will change the current authorities through the democratic path," concluded Narek Karapetyan.
