Tehran residents are paying their last respects to Iran's Supreme Leader, the late Ali Khamenei who was killed in US and Israeli strikes, in a mass march through the streets of the Iranian capital.

From early Monday morning, crowds of thousands began to gather at points marked as the main routes of the march.

Khamenei’s raised fist has become a symbol of this mourning, as well as Iran's resistance to US and Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic. In addition to banners and flags with the aforesaid fist, Iranians  have made commemorative signs and shirts.

Those who came to join the funeral procession are carrying portraits of the deceased ayatollah and his son Mojtaba, who became Ali Khamenei's successor as Iran’s Supreme Leader, as well as the country's flags.

The crowd are cheering with their chants, vowing revenge for the slain leader, and chanting anti-Israel and anti-American slogans. Some of the slogans were directed against the last Iranian shah's son, Reza Pahlavi, who had defended US strikes against Iran.

Also, Iranians showed their support for their allies, unfurling banners in support of Lebanon and Gaza.

On Tuesday, a similar funeral procession will also pass through the city of Qom. And on Wednesday, the body of the late Supreme Leader of Iran will be taken to the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Najaf, and Karbala. Ali Khamenei's body will be returned to his homeland on Thursday, to his birthplace of Mashhad, where the interment will take place.
