After exchanging strikes with Iran, the United States intends to continue negotiations to reach a final agreement, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a U.S. official.

On Tuesday, the United States carried out airstrikes on facilities along the Iranian coast and blocked Iran’s ability to legally sell oil in response to Tehran’s recent attacks on ships near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a senior U.S. official, Iran responded with counterattacks, threatening to derail the temporary peace agreement, negotiations over which had taken several weeks, and to drive up oil prices.

Earlier, the United States revoked the waiver that allowed Tehran to sell oil, thereby removing a key incentive for Iran under the temporary peace agreement.
