We have also heard unofficially that attacks were launched against Iran from Azerbaijani territory, but representatives of the Iranian army and security forces have not confirmed this opinion. The Iranian ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, stated this at a press conference Wednesday.
The Iranian diplomat called the answer obvious to the question of what Iran's reaction would be if attacks were launched from the territory of any country. Shirgholami recalled that Iran gave a proper response to the attacks on the territories of those countries from whose territory American attacks were launched against the Islamic Republic.
"One of Iran's main priorities during the last war was to minimize its consequences for the South Caucasus," the Iranian diplomat added.
Shirgholami recalled the suspicious incident that occurred at the Nakhchivan airport during the last war between Iran, on the one hand, and the US and Israel, on the other.
“After that, the Azerbaijani president made a harsh statement and rhetoric that crossed the boundaries of what is permissible. In response, Iran took a balanced and restrained position. Later, the issue was resolved through diplomatic channels. We [i.e. Iran] sent a message from our side that such behavior is unacceptable,” the Iranian envoy to Armenia concluded.
