US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin later in the day, revealing the call while seated alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, CNN reports.

As reporters shouted questions during the bilateral meeting, Trump invited them to direct one toward the Russian leader. “Do you have a question for Putin?” Trump said, prompting some confusion that he had mixed up Zelenskyy with Putin. Trump quickly clarified his remarks.

“Give us a question, not for Zelenskyy, give us a question for Putin,” the US president said, doubling down. “Because I’m speaking to him today.” Trump and Putin last spoke during a roughly 90-minute phone call on July 4, during which Trump again offered to help broker an end to the conflict, according to Russia’s foreign ministry.
