US leadership considers that a new wave of strikes on Iranian territory and retaliatory attacks by the Islamic Republic could last up to one month. Axios reported this, citing sources.

According to the outlet, the strikes could also last several days. In this regard, Washington believes that the duration and scale of the attacks will depend on Tehran’s next steps. As one of the outlet’s interlocutors noted, the US is carrying out strikes “so that they (the Iranians) understand that we are not joking.”

The US and Israel began a war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. On July 8, US President Donald Trump said that the ceasefire regime with Iran was no longer in effect, accusing Tehran of violating bilateral agreements. Speaker of Iran’s Majlis (parliament), Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said after the new US armed forces strikes on the Islamic Republic that the Strait of Hormuz would be open only after Tehran’s conditions were met, and not under Washington’s threats. He stressed that intimidation and broken promises by the US no longer come without consequences.
