Iran exported at least 10 million barrels of crude oil and fuel oil overnight, according to analytics firm TankerTrackers.com. In its assessment, Tehran is seeking to move fuel to foreign markets as quickly as possible, fearing a possible resumption of a naval blockade by the U.S. Navy.
According to the analysts, the export surge came immediately after Washington unexpectedly canceled a 60-day easing of the sanctions regime that had temporarily allowed Iran to sell oil openly.
The United States made this decision after accusing Iran of attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and following a series of U.S. strikes on Iranian military infrastructure targets carried out over the past 48 hours.
