Bundestag (parliament) lawmakers have decided not to increase their salaries this year, citing the difficult economic and budgetary situation in Germany. The respective bill of the ruling coalition was supported by all parliamentary factions.

Currently, German MPs receive about 11,800 euros per month. But starting from July 1, their salary was to increase by 497 euros, reaching 12,330 euros. The amount of payments is calculated according to the law and depends on the average salary in the country.

However, all parliamentary factions in Germany have spoken out against increasing the income of MPs in conditions of economic difficulties, which ensured the unanimous passing of the aforesaid bill.

Earlier, the German newspaper RND reported that a four-year parliamentary term is enough to qualify for pension payments comparable to the pension of the average German worker after 28 years of work.

Germany has been facing an economic crisis for several years, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic and then deepened due to the cessation of Russian natural gas supplies and the escalation of the conflict over Iran.
