Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that he will visit Ukraine in the near future on the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the prospects for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Speaking on TRT, Fidan said that he had previously held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian representatives, during which issues related to resolving the situation were discussed.

“I conveyed messages from our president. Ahead of the NATO summit, in which US President Donald Trump was expected to take part, it was important to understand Mr. Putin’s position,” the Turkish foreign minister noted.

According to Fidan, Erdogan also discussed the Ukrainian issue with European leaders and the US president. After these contacts, the Turkish leader once again instructed diplomats to continue working on the peace process.

The Turkish foreign minister added that during his visit to Kyiv he intends to hold similar consultations with Ukrainian representatives.
