Iran and the United States may resume negotiations as early as next week, despite the renewed hostilities between the parties. This was reported by Axios, citing an unnamed source.

According to the outlet, the next round of talks will likely take place in Switzerland. It is also noted that a Qatari delegation arrived in Iran on Friday, coordinating its actions with Washington in an attempt to reduce tensions.

“It is clear that both sides want to return to the memorandum of understanding,” an unnamed diplomat told Axios, commenting on the possible resumption of dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

The United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for a cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. Later, talks mediated by Qatar and Pakistan were held at the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock on issues related to implementing the agreements reached.

However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the agreement related to the situation around the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier stated that the ceasefire regime with Iran was no longer in effect, although the negotiation process continues.
