During a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed Islamabad’s readiness to continue mediation efforts to resolve the conflict between Tehran and Washington.

“We discussed the evolving regional situation and emphasized the need for restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy to preserve the hard-won peace agreements reached in recent months. I reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing its role as an honest and sincere mediator in establishing lasting regional peace,” Sharif wrote on the social media platform X.

According to him, the parties discussed the situation in the region and the need to prevent further escalation.

Earlier, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities, after which talks were held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with mediation by Qatar and Pakistan, on implementing the agreements reached.

However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the agreement related to the situation around the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier stated that the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect, although the negotiation process continues.
