Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed condolences over the death of Qatar’s former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani — the father of the country’s current ruler.
In a post on the social media platform X in Arabic, the Iranian foreign minister expressed his “deep sorrow” over the passing of the former emir and extended condolences to Qatar’s current emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar.
Araghchi also wished the deceased mercy and forgiveness, and his loved ones patience and steadfastness.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died at the age of 74. He ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, after which he handed power to his son, the current emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
