Parliamentary elections in Israel will be held on October 27 — on that date, as provided by law, the Knesset’s current term will come to an end.

Ophir Katz, chair of the Knesset House Committee from the Likud party, announced the voting date during a discussion of a bill on party financing ahead of the elections, The Times of Israel reports.

Knesset legal adviser Sagit Afik also stated that the current parliament “will complete its full term and will not be dissolved,” so there is no need to pass a law on early dissolution.

If the elections are held as scheduled, this will be the first such case in Israel in nearly 40 years.

In addition, the current government could become the first in more than half a century to serve a full four-year term without collapsing early.
