Authorities in Iran’s Bushehr province have denied reports that appeared on social media about a US attack on facilities at the Bushehr nuclear power plant and the release of radioactive substances.

The province’s deputy governor for political and security affairs said in a comment to the Fars news agency that the information about a strike on the nuclear power plant is untrue.

“Reports of a release of radioactive materials and the emergence of nuclear contamination at the station’s waste storage facility are absolutely not true,” the administration representative said.

Earlier, claims appeared online alleging that a strike had been carried out on the waste storage site of the Bushehr nuclear power plant and that a radiation leak was possible. Iranian authorities called these reports rumors.
