Representatives from Pakistan, Qatar, and Egypt held a new round of diplomatic contacts with the US and Iran over the weekend in an effort to ease tension between the two sides, sources say, AP reports.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar’s phone call with and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was a key event in these contacts.

The mediators plan to continue efforts to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

The talks come amid a new round of confrontation.

Earlier, the US Central Command announced new strikes on targets in Iran.

For its part, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran reported strikes on US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

The mediation efforts continue despite the temporary ceasefire agreements and the resumption of hostilities after previous rounds of talks between Washington and Tehran.
