A new phase in interstate relations is beginning in the cooperation between Baku and Paris. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced this in a congratulatory message to French President Emmanuel Macron on the occasion of the French National Day.

The fruitful discussions during recent telephone conversations and the meeting in Copenhagen last year on matters on the Azerbaijani-French agenda, as well as the current state and prospects of bilateral ties provide a basis for talking about the start of a new phase in the history of interstate relations, Aliyev noted.

He expressed a conviction that Baku and Paris will continue to make joint efforts to develop bilateral relations in the spirit of partnership in the economic, cultural, educational, and several other domains of mutual interest.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Paris deteriorated in 2020 amid the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In October 2025, Aliyev and Macron had met in Copenhagen for the first time in four years. After that, Aliyev had announced that Baku and Paris had resolved their differences in bilateral relations.
