The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned the UK's decision to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite unit of Iran's armed forces, as a terrorist organization.
Sky News television, citing a statement by UK Minister of State for Security Angela Eagle, on Monday reported that London had put the IRGC on its list of terrorist organizations.
The Iranian foreign ministry condemns the move of the UK government to declare the IRGC as a threat under the national security law. The Iranian side considers this decision unjustified, irresponsible, and a violation of the fundamental provisions of international law, including the principles of sovereignty of states and non-interference in internal affairs, the Iranian MFA stated.
It added that Tehran reserves the right to take retaliatory measures, and warned that full accountability for the possible consequences of this decision falls on the UK authorities.
