A conference on Armenian political prisoners in Azerbaijan and the imperative of the European Union (EU) engagement is being held Tuesday at the European Parliament, informs the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD).

The event is co-organized by European Parliament members Costas Mavrides (Cyprus) and Miriam Lexmann (Slovakia).

The aim of this conference is to present an up-to-date assessment of the situation of the Armenian hostages and political prisoners held in Azerbaijan.

Concerns related to politically motivated criminal prosecutions, arbitrary detentions and harsh sentences, as well as their impact on European human rights policy and EU-Azerbaijan relations, will also be discussed.
