The Institute for Crime & Justice Policy Research has compiled a ranking of the world's countries by their prison populations.

In this list, Armenia ranks 167th (with 83 prisoners per 100,000 people), Georgia ranks 41st (285 prisoners), Azerbaijan ranks 50th (264 people), Russia ranks 35th (300 prisoners), and Turkey ranks 10th (468).

The worst situation is recorded in El Salvador (1,659 prisoners per 100,000 people).

The incarceration rate across the world's countries is calculated as the number of individuals in prison per 100,000 of the population. It serves as one of the key indicators for evaluating the overall level of social well-being and public safety in a given state, as well as state policy in the field of criminal justice.
