A drone of unknown origin crashed near the key Al-Faw port in southern Iraq, Al Jazeera reported, citing a source in the Iraqi security services.

"An unidentified drone crashed near Al-Faw port," the source said.

No material damage was recorded as a result of the incident, the authorities of Basra province said in a press release.

Al-Faw port is a strategic project for the Iraqi authorities. Once construction is completed, the port is expected to become the largest in the Middle East.
