We expect Baku and Yerevan to agree on the sequence of the upcoming meetings of the foreign ministers of the countries participating in the “3+3” platform. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said this at a briefing.
“Let me remind you that this agreement was reached following the Istanbul meeting.
At the first expert session of the platform, which took place on June 5, 2026 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg forum, participants strongly supported focusing on specific mutually beneficial economic projects without politicization. We fully share this approach,” Zakharova noted.
She added that the “3+3” format (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia + Russia, Iran and Turkey) was created in 2021 to address emerging problems and issues in the region through the efforts of the states of the region themselves and their closest neighbors.
“They, more than anyone else, have a direct and vital interest in peace and security in the South Caucasus.
The platform’s agenda was developed during three meetings of the foreign ministries in Moscow, Tehran and Istanbul and has a universal character. It concerns cooperation on a wide range of issues of multilateral cooperation: transport, energy, culture, and the fight against new challenges and threats. Bilateral relations are not expected to be discussed. This format is about something else,” Zakharova emphasized.
